Dentex fishing
The dentex (Dentex dentex) is a saltwater species common in the Mediterranean, Black Sea and also occurs in the Canary Islands, Morocco and Senegal. It gets its name from its pronounced teeth with which it catches mollusks, squid, cuttlefish and fish.
The dentex is caught trolling or drifting with live bait. A live squid or cuttlefish is usually irresistible. For bottom trolling it is essential to have a downrigger to be able to get close to the seabed.
Brightly colored artificial lures (yellow, pink, orange...) also produce good results with the downrigger. When drifting, a good weight is used to keep the bait open. Jigs can also be used to catch dentex. It can reach more than 1 meter and weigh up to 15 kg.
