Fishing in La Paz

Fishing with pangas you can go fishing for the predators we all dream of: snapper, roosterfish, grouper, snook and yellowtail jacks. With these boats you can also go further out and fish for pelagic Species.

Dorado are abundant in the Sea of Cortez. Fishing can be done with light tackle trolling, spinning or fly fishing. They are usually near patches of seaweed and floating objects. Seagulls usually indicate where they are.

From December to January there are swordfish in large numbers in the Sea of Cortez (especially during a full moon). Summer is striped marlin season and they can be trolled with artificial lures. Releasing a dozen striped marlin in a day is not unusual in La Paz and the Los Cabos area.

Fishing in La Paz is good all year round, but each season has its own species. It doesn't mean that outside of those seasons you can't catch them, just that they are less likely to be caught outside of those seasons.

Roosterfish are caught mainly between March and June.

The striped marlin is fished in La Paz mainly between June and October.

Blue marlin are also caught in La Paz between June and October. Then in November and early December they are also caught, but in smaller quantities.

The best time for Sailfish fishing in and around La Paz is from June to September.

Wahoo (wahoo) are caught in La Paz between June and November mostly.

Dorado are caught in La Paz mostly between May and November.

Visit Isla Espiritu Santo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that includes 244 islands in the Sea of Cortez. Isla Espiritu Santo is surrounded by inviting blue waters for kayaking and snorkeling.

Take a stroll along the Malecon, La Paz's seaside promenade. It is a wide avenue with beaches, sculptures by local artists and has a sunset you will never forget. Starting from the La Paz Marina to Coromuel Beach is about 5.5km.

Go whale watching! There are only three places in the world where gray whales bring their babies into the world. These three places are in Baja!

Fishing in La Paz and Mexico in general, starting from shore, does not require a fishing license. Fishing from boats is strictly regulated. Every Angler aboard the Boat needs a Fishing license.

Fishing licenses can be purchased for one day, one week, one month or one year. Fishing charters in Mexico usually include the fishing license within the total price, but it is worth checking this when booking a Fishing charter.

Depending on the Boat and the Duration of your Fishing trip, you will pay more or less for the trip. The Price for an 8 hour Fishing trip in La Paz with a panga is $475USD. A trip with a 40-foot charter for an 8-hour Fishing trip will cost you about $1200USD. Of course, there are bigger Boats that are more expensive, but for that you also have more comfort.

What is included in the Price?

The Price usually includes the skipper, fishing tackle, fuel, bait and lures. In each advert we indicate if drinks and food are Included.

Check before Booking if natural bait, taxes (16%) and licenses are included in the Price.

Once you have made your Booking, the Captain will contact you to arrange the meeting point and the time of departure. We also recommend that you contact the Captain a couple of days before the excursion to confirm the weather forecast.
