Not only because the fishing is more active during these months with warmer seas, but mainly because the weather in winter is quite harsh. Fishing in Ireland is regulated by Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI). For Fishing at sea, you do not need a fishing license. But for freshwater fishing, a special fishing license is required for certain rivers, such as those falling under the Midland Fisheries Group and also for many trout and salmon fishing grounds. In the north, a fishing license is also required in some places for pike fishing.
