The bathymetric map of the Gulf of Naples immediately shows a very interesting seabed. The Gulf of Naples is fairly flat and shallow. Towards the northern area, around the islands of Procida and Ischia, the rocky bottom is irregular, with depths ranging from 50 to 200 m - ideal for bottom fishing and fishing for dentex, amberjack or grouper for example.
Between the islands of Ischia and Capri there is a spectacular Banco di Fuori that separates the canyon of Magnaghi from that of Dohrn. This area has some impressive ridges. While in the northern part of Capri, the depth is about 50 meters, in the southern part the seabed descends rapidly to 1,000 meters.
In Naples there are several charters and fishing guides that offer sport fishing excursions. These guides can provide all the necessary equipment, including fishing tackle and bait, as well as knowledge about the best fishing spots in the area.
Year-round live bait fishing for dentex, amberjack and grouper. The best live bait for fishing in the Naples area is squid. Bottom fishing is another option if you want to fish offshore. With small pieces of fish, shrimp or squid you can catch snapper, sea bream, conger eel, scorpion fish and other bottom species.
From April to September, bluefin tuna, imperial marlin and albacore (albacore) visit the waters off Naples. While albacore tuna and marlin are fished mainly by trolling, bluefin tuna are fished by baiting. Obviously, bluefin tuna are also caught trolling, but they tend to be somewhat smaller than those caught by brumeo.
