If you want to fish near Rome, you can go to the ports of Ostia, Civitavecchia or Fiumicino. The bathymetric map of the Tyrrhenian Sea immediately reveals that the underwater scenery is as spectacular as on the Italian mainland.
The northern part of the Tyrrhenian Sea is relatively shallow and you have to sail quite a bit to find depths of 1,000 meters or more. But towards the southern part the seabed descends rapidly to more than 1,000 meters. Here you can find depths of up to 4,000 meters (Starting from Ostia, Civitavechia and Fiumicino this is too far for a fishing trip).
Inshore, the rocky and stony bottom is perfect for grouper, dentex and amberjack. They love the area because there is plenty of food for them, such as squid, mackerel, sardines and horse mackerel.
Bottom fishing is another technique used during sea fishing trips. Anglers anchor over the reef where they fish for scorpionfish, sea bream, jacks, snappers and other smaller bottom fish with worms, cut squid or sardines.
Offshore, from April to September, you can fish for bluefin tuna, albacore and swordfish. In mid-August, the first dorados appear and remain until the end of October.
The day you don't go fishing, it is 'mandatory' to immerse yourself in the history and beauty of Rome. We are not going to name all the monuments and sites you could visit, but don't miss for example these 5:
St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museums: visiting St. Peter's Basilica, the main Catholic place of worship and the largest church in the world, is a must. In addition, the Vatican Museums house an incredible collection of art, including the famous Sistine Chapel.
The Colosseum: This ancient amphitheater is an icon of Rome and a must-see. Imagine what it was like to witness the thrilling gladiatorial spectacles and explore the monumental structure of the Colosseum.
Trevi Fountain: One of the most famous fountains in the world, the Trevi Fountain is a breathtaking sight. Throwing a coin into the fountain according to tradition ensures a return to Rome in the future.
Piazza di Spagna and the Spanish Steps: Piazza di Spagna is a charming square with a central fountain and a monumental staircase known as the Spanish Steps. It is a popular place to relax, shop and enjoy the atmosphere.
The Pantheon: An impressive ancient building, the Pantheon is a Roman temple dedicated to the gods. Its dome is an architectural masterpiece and the interior houses the tomb of the famous painter Raphael.
These attractions will allow you to immerse yourself in the history and beauty of Rome. Enjoy your visit!
It is important to note that there may be rules and restrictions on fishing in certain areas, so it is best to check with local authorities or your Guide before heading out.
Also, be sure to follow all fishing regulations and practice responsible catch-and-release techniques to help preserve local fish populations.
Fishing charters near Rome have a fishing license included in the price, so you won't have to purchase one if you're chartering a boat. Fishing in freshwater in the Tiber River and lakes requires a fishing license.
