Marbella
In Fishing in Marbella, every Angler can enjoy the four ports that this iconic city of the Costa del Sol has. These ports are: Puerto Virgen del Carmen (located in the center of the city and close to the stores and beaches, it has a yacht club and a professional diving school), Puerto Banus (luxury marina with almost 1000 moorings), Puerto de Cabopino and Puerto Marina la Bajadilla.
The sama can measure more than one meter and can weigh 15 kilograms or more. The color of its scales is usually pink at the time of capture and then more reddish.
This species inhabits the seabed near the coast of Marbella between 2 and 200 meters deep in rocky or mixed sandy and rocky areas. Fishing for this species is practiced by trolling with natural bait. Fishing can be done practically all year round, although February and March are usually the best months to catch this species.
The common dentex (Dentex dentex) is a species of fish from the sparidae family and is named after its large teeth. It can reach a length of about 100 cm in its adult stage, weighing approximately 14 kg. The scales acquire a greenish-gray color if young or reddish with bluish spots in adults (sometimes with a dark transverse band). It has only one dorsal fin that can hide.
But the most remarkable, as we have already said, are its teeth: it has four strong fangs with which it devours its prey (although it is not dangerous for humans). It basically feeds on fish, crabs, mollusks and, its favorite, squid.
The Dentex in Marbella fishing can be found between 0 and 200 meters deep, depending on whether it is young or adult we will find it in the first case closer to the shore and in the second case deeper. We can use the technique of bottom trolling with natural bait to fish it. Bottom trolling or anchored with natural bait, you can fish almost all year round, April and May are usually very good months.
The Bluefin Tuna (Thunnus Thynnus) or also known as Bluefin Tuna, is a fish of the Scombridae family. It is a species that can weigh more than 500 kilograms, which makes it one of the most prized species by Anglers when fishing in Marbella. It can be fished with the trolling technique from April to September, although it is also fished with sardine, mackerel or horse mackerel in July and August.
Fishing in Marbella, a very spectacular alternative to catch tuna between 20 and 100 kilograms is to practice spinning. For this technique it is best to use walkers, stickbait and fairly large jigs that are picked up irregularly, sometimes with dry jerks, stops and quick retrieves. For tuna spinning, it is advisable to use a good reel (such as Saltiga 4500 or 6500 from Daiwa or Stella 18000 - 20000 from Shimano, for example), a suitable rod, braided lines of 60lb - 80lb because the fight with a bluefin tuna can easily last for more than an hour.
The grouper belongs to the subfamily Epinephelinae. Its strong body is characterized by large eyes and a prominent jaw. They usually inhabit the rockier areas of Marbella. The largest we can find are 1 meter long and can weigh more than 40 kilograms. Its brown color has white spots, depending on the color of its habitat and brightness vary the colors of this predator.
This fish is perfectly adapted to the seabed fishing in Marbella. It is fished near the bottom trolling or anchored with natural bait. It can be found all year round.
In Marbella fishing, the common sea bream is also known as red sea bream, bogarrabella, voraz or bogazo. Also pancho or panchito (when young). Its shape is oval and with a somewhat flattened sides. The head has a rounded shape with a reddish back and silver sides. Its fins are pink and it has black spots in the axils of its pectoral fins. It can weigh more than 6 kg and measures between 25 and 60 cm. Juveniles are more coastal, shallow water and swim in large schools. It lives in small schools of fish and as its age increases, it is found in deeper and sandier places.
The sea bream is fished at great depths (which means between 200 and 400 meters deep), especially in winter. Electric reel equipment is a great help to bring the fish up from these depths.
Deep sea trolling and spinning can be practiced from April, May and with these techniques we can fish for bluefin tuna, albacore and Atlantic blue whiting. Fishing drifting or anchoring is also possible at this time of the year to catch dentex, grouper or tuna. Bottom fishing to catch scorpionfish, horse mackerel, snapper, bream, conger eel, bream, bream and other species found in the reef called Las Bovedas, for example.
Fishing in Marbella in summer is a good time to fish for Bluefin Tuna. This Fishing can be done offshore 30 miles from the coast. Bluefin Tuna is rather trolled with artificial baits because if there are currents, these do not allow for bait fishing.
Closer to the coast the Fishing in Marbella can be done trolling with natural bait (squid, mackerel or horse mackerel) to catch Dentex, Sama, Grouper or Amberjack. There is also bottom fishing at this time of the year: scorpion fish, horse mackerel, snapper, bream, conger eel, bream, bream, bream and other rockfish.
Apart from bottom fishing, this is an excellent time for coastal trolling with small lures and sinkers to fish for various species such as Bonito, Mackerel, Melva, Bacoreta and Lampuga, among others.
Winter is usually the ideal time for fishing in Marbella for big game and bottom fishing. If we opt for bottom fishing we can find a wide range of species. Some examples are the big sea bream, forkbeards, conger eel, Cherna, grouper and hake. February and March are usually very good months for fishing big Sama (Capiton) trolling with natural bait. Grouper, Dentex and Amberjack can also be caught with this technique.
Fishing can be done at any time of the year.
Apart from fishing in Marbella, you can also enjoy the area by biking or mountain biking, wine tasting in the nearby wineries, snorkeling or scuba diving, sailing, walking and hiking, and much much more.
