The waters of La Gomera are dominated by rocky and abrupt bottoms with abundant caves, crevices and tunnels. There is also an area of a wide marine platform, exceptional in the Canary archipelago.
Due to the upwelling of cold sea currents - coming from the African coast - species such as sea bream, sea bass, sea bass and dentex can be found in La Graciosa. In deeper waters there are also abundant hake.
Other species typical of this well-protected area are grouper, abade and pejeperro. There is also an abundance of pelagic species, such as the two-spotted seabass, amberjack and amberjack.
Fishing in La Graciosa is good all year round. Being north of Lanzarote, although it is exposed to the trade winds (July and August can be hard months), it is advisable to schedule the Fishing trip in La Graciosa closely watching the weather, because on windy days you can not go fishing.
Throughout the year you can fish for grouper, amberjack or amberjack in canary, abade or abae, dentex, bluefish or silverside, bonito or sierra, spit or bicua and horse mackerel among others.
Although there are tuna all year round, from March onwards the tuna begin to appear in larger numbers: bluefin tuna, albacore, bigeye tuna... For other pelagic fish such as blue marlin or white marlin you have to wait until June or July. The best time for marlin fishing in La Graciosa is from September to November.
The months of October and November are excellent for fishing the big amberjack, which is when they approach the islands to feed on the dorados.
In the months of March, April and May the waters begin to warm up and the squids arrive from Africa. Behind them come the big samas, grouper and big dentex.
La Graciosa is one of the authentic redoubts of peace and tranquility left in Europe. You can come from Lanzarote to spend the day (the crossing from Orzola is less than 30 minutes) or you can stay in a cottage in the village of Caleta de Sebo.
Visit the beaches such as Playa de La Laja, Playa La Francesa, Playa de la Cocina or Playa de Las Conchas. Here you can swim and snorkel in turquoise waters.
Discover its sensational gastronomy and try the fried moray eel, limpets, fried octopus, wreckfish, fish broth, and the impressive rice with carabineros.
It is worth taking a mountain bike route and explore La Graciosa on your own.
Fishing in La Graciosa is strictly regulated. As the island is part of a very important Marine Booking - the largest in Europe - one needs the necessary licenses to be able to fish in La Graciosa.
Starting from land, the national license is enough to be able to fish in La Graciosa by spinning for example. But to fish from a boat in inland waters you need a permit from the Booking. There is a Fishing charter in Orzola that has this permit. The locals of Orzola can fish in La Graciosa in a restricted area of the Booking for their own use only.
The other Fishing charters in Lanzarote usually have a fishing permit to fish in La Graciosa, but only in outside waters.
