Gran Canaria
Blue Marlin: large predator that is mostly caught by trolling. The best months are from July to October.
White Marlin: the little brother of the blue marlin; also mostly trolled. The best months to catch white marlin are from June to the end of October.
Amberjack: also called amberjack or amberjack in the Canary Islands. This pelagic fish lives all year long in the waters of the archipelago. The best techniques to catch amberjack are trolling with natural bait or jigging.
Bigeye tuna: bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus) can reach 250 cm in total length and 210 kg in weight. The best months for bigeye tuna fishing are February, March and April.
Blackmouth: it is a subtropical snapper that inhabits rocky bottoms. Large specimens can be caught with a jig, but they prefer natural bait such as shrimp, cuttlefish or squid.
Fall and winter: anchored or drifting the best technique for this time of the year is bottom fishing. Fishing with natural bait we fish for all types of rockfish, big skate and mid-water sierra (Canarian name for Atlantic Bonito, in Latin Sarda Sarda). With live bait (Mackerel, Choco or Squid for example) you can fish Medregal (Serviola), Sama. In winter we usually catch bluefin tuna, big eye tuna and albacore. They are fished by trolling with big bonito lures or with natural bait. You can also drift fish for tuna with natural bait.
Spring and summer: From spring onwards a warmer water current arrives from the south to the Canary Islands. This current arrives first to La Gomera and then reaches the other islands of the archipelago. Consigo brings abundant nutrients for small fish such as mackerel, sardines, sardines, sardines, etc.. In turn the preferred food of the wahoo, albacore, skipjack tuna, bonito, white marlin and, above all, blue marlin. The "picudos" visit Gran Canaria from June to October, although the best months for Marlin fishing in Gran Canaria are July and August. At this time of the year almost all the Boats are trolling: at a speed of about 6-8 knots all kinds of artificial lures such as octopus or squid made of rubber or feather are dragged. Fishing is done on the surface and the lures usually come out of the water, creating a bubble trail that attracts predators even more. The vast majority of Anglers practice responsible fishing: once they have enjoyed fighting an animal that can weigh more than 1,000 pounds (almost 500 kg), it is released again safe and sound.
Apart from fishing in Gran Canaria, you can also enjoy the area by biking or mountain biking, snorkeling or diving, sailing, windsurfing in Pozo Izquierdo, walking and hiking, and much, much more.
Discover the local customs and food in the hundreds of bars and restaurants in Playa del Inglés, Mogan, Meloneras, Pasito Blanco or Puerto Rico; and try dishes such as Mojo Picón, Papas arrugadas, Almogrote, Sancocho canario etc.
Do not miss the Carnival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the festival of La Rama or the International Jazz Festival of the Canary Islands.
The capital Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is worth a visit to see its old town, the magnificent beaches and the promenade, the nightlife.
