Catfish are caught in Deltebre with live eel or carp. Some Anglers fish with a float rig, others prefer to use a sinker rig for bottom fishing.
Bottom fishing with worm, crab or mussel is fishing for bream in the river, in Riumar and the beaches of the mouth.
Pike-perch and black bass are caught mainly with spinning lures and vinyls. Sea bass are also caught.
Live bait such as mullet, mackerel or horse mackerel are used trolling or drifting to catch bluefish or leerfish in the river and the mouth. Large amberjack can also be caught in the mouth of the river fishing this way.
Starting from Deltebre, tuna fishing is basically done in two ways: baitcasting and spinning. There is not much tradition of trolling, although they can also be caught this way. Bluefin tuna, Atlantic bluefin tuna and bonito are caught in the area between the mouth of the Ebro river and l'Ametlla de Mar.
Tuna, bluefin tuna and bonito: April to October. In mid-June bluefin tuna go to spawn in the Balearic Islands and it is more difficult to catch them from mid-June to mid-July.
Sea bream and sea bass: all year round, although winter is especially good for larger sea bass.
Bluefish and leerfish: they are caught mainly from April to November. May and June are very good and also September and October.
In order to fish in Deltebre you need a fishing license which can be obtained from the Generalitat de Catalunya website.
Remember that Fishing charters and guides usually include a fishing license in the price of the activity, so (as a general rule) you don't need to buy one when renting a fishing boat in Deltebre.
