Fishing in Moorea

Moorea is a true Indo-Pacific Fishing paradise. Fishing along the white sandy beaches and wading the bays, Anglers look for jacks, snapper and bonefish.

On the reefs you can fish for humphead wrasse, bohar snapper and Coral Trout grouper by bait, fly fishing or jigging. Around the reefs, dogtooth tuna, bluefin trevally, Giant Trevally and grouper can be hooked on jigs, poppers and natural baits.

Moorea is a great sport fishing destination. Offshore, fishing trips focus on blue marlin, yellowfin tuna, bigeye and dogtooth tuna, wahoo and dorado.

The best months for sport fishing in Moorea are October through June. This is not to say that outside of these months there is no fishing - quite the contrary!

Although you can fish for blue marlin all year round, summer is the peak season for marlin fishing in Moorea. Especially from December to June, when the water is warmer.

During the winter (June, July and August) the sea is colder and sometimes it gets quite rough. But still, catching a marlin in Moorea in winter is not impossible.

Inshore fishing, fishing in the bays and reefs can be done all year round in Moorea. Here you can expect to find a variety of fish including small barracuda, lagoon bonito, jacks, bluefin trevally, snapper and grouper.
