The Ibiza Channel is the obligatory passage for large predators - such as bluefin tuna and albacore - that go to spawn around the Balearic Islands and in the Gulf of Lions. The port of Jávea is strategically well located for deep-sea fishing, as only 20 miles from the coast there are already depths of more than 900 meters.
Around Cape San Antonio, the bottoms are mountainous spurs with mud and loose stones; very attractive bottoms for jigging or bottom trolling for dentex, grouper or amberjack. In these coastal areas you can also find bluefish and leerfish.
With bottom fishing we will catch pagel, snapper, scorpion fish, sea bream, among others.
The best months for big game fishing in Javea are June, July and August. Trolling for albacore and bluefin tuna takes place from April to early July. Then in the middle of the summer (July, August and September), trolling is the best technique to fish for bluefin tuna.
Bottom fishing is possible all year round. Fishing is done in rocky areas or in the sunken Boats in the area of Cabo de San Antonio. Species caught with natural bait are sea bream, scorpion fish, conger eel, snapper, grouper.
Coastal trolling can be practiced all year round, but the best time is from April to the beginning of November. On the surface you can catch - especially in September and October - horse mackerel, frigate mackerel, bonito, dolphinfish, and Atlantic cod trolling with feathers and lures.
Dentex and amberjack are caught with natural bait in the vicinity of rocky areas, rocks and wrecks. This Fishing is done both drifting and bottom trolling with downrigger.
Apart from fishing in Javea, you can also enjoy the area by biking or mountain biking, wine tasting in the nearby wineries, snorkeling or scuba diving, sailing, walking and hiking, and much more.
