Sitges
The Sitges coastline is made up of beautiful beaches with several breakwaters and impressive cliffs. These create the perfect conditions for bottom fishing and spinning. Starting from the beaches and breakwaters you can fish for bluefish and sea bass. The best lures are walkers, poppers and vinyls (the latter can be used with or without casting buoy). The bluefish can also be attacked with natural bait (mackerel, mackerel or horse mackerel) trolling inshore.
The seabed in front of Sitges is sandy with some stony areas. Locals love fishing for sea bream from Playa de la Fragata, Playa de San Sebastian or Playa de Balmins for example. The best baits for sea bream fishing in Sitges are worm, crab, shrimp or mussel.
In autumn and winter you can fish for squid in front of the church of Sitges, in waters 20 meters deep.
About 8 miles northeast of Sitges - in front of Garraf and Vallcarca - there is a rocky area called "La Barra", where predators such as dentex and amberjack can be caught using live squid or cuttlefish. In front of Vilanova i la Geltrú in about 100 meters deep there is an interesting wreck popularly known as the Vapor, which is also an interesting spot for jigging and bottom fishing.
And just 5 miles from Sitges there is a ridge where the seabed drops from 100 meters to more than 1000 meters, and is a real highway where whales, dolphins and pelagic fish species migrate from the Strait of Gibraltar to the entire Mediterranean Sea. March and April are the best months for fishing bluefin tuna of 30-40 kg throwing poppers, walkers and jigs towards the impressive aviaries.
In May, these aviaries are more common towards the Gulf of Sant Jordi and the Ebro Delta. In the Sitges area, the tuna fishing is done by brumeo. The area of El Forat is one of the best places for tuna fishing in Sitges. Tuna caught by brumeo usually weigh between 40 kg and 150 kg, but there are fish weighing up to 300 kg.
Offshore, there are interesting seamounts (such as La Pera and Les Mamelles) and the Mallorca channel, which are excellent places to troll for tuna and albacore (May - August).
Year-round: spin fishing for sea bass, bottom fishing for sea bream, snapper, jack mackerel and other bottom species.
Spring: deep sea fishing, spinning for bluefin tuna.
Summer: trolling for bluefin tuna.
Autumn: Inshore trolling fishing for bonito, dolphinfish, amberjack, amberjack, horse mackerel, frigate tuna, mackerel. Fishing with live bait for dentex and amberjack (amberjack).
Winter: Squid fishing. Fishing with live bait for dentex and amberjack.
The Sitges Carnival and the Sitges International Film Festival are two major events that attract visitors from all over the world. The vibrant carnival parades and the film festival screenings and events are cultural highlights of Sitges.
In addition, the Güell and Torres Wineries offer unique experiences for wine lovers, and enjoying the fireworks, especially during festivals or special events, can be a thrilling experience.
If you include these attractions in your Sitges itinerary, you will undoubtedly enjoy a complete and memorable visit to this charming seaside town.
Don't miss the Cau Ferrat Museum: Once the home of artist Santiago Rusiñol, this museum is a treasure trove of modernist art. It houses works by Rusiñol himself, along with pieces by other renowned artists such as Picasso and El Greco. The building itself is a work of art, and the museum offers a glimpse into the cultural history of Sitges.
The beautiful beaches of Sitges are a must-see. In addition to the aforementioned Playa de la Fragata, there are others, such as Playa de Sant Sebastià and Playa de Balmins. Spend some time sunbathing or taking a refreshing dip in the Mediterranean Sea.
In order to fish in Sitges you need a fishing license. This license can be obtained at the Departament d'Agricultura, Ramaderia, Fishing i Alimentació de la Generalitat de Catalunya and also serves for the rest of Spain (for some areas or rivers an additional license is needed, it is advisable to get information before starting the day's activity). Youcan obtain the Fishing license on the website of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
Remember that Sitges Fishing charters and guides usually include a fishing license in the price of the activity, so (as a general rule) you don't need to buy one when renting a Fishing boat in Sitges.
