Fishing in Puerto Aventuras

The Yucatán Peninsula, where Puerto Aventuras is situated, has two major channels that serve as highways for pelagic fish species migrating to and from the Gulf of Mexico throughout the year. The Yucatán Channel, which is between the Yucatán Peninsula and Cuba and is 120 miles wide and 2800 ft deep, is a prime location for deep sea fishing. Another channel, located between the island of Cozumel and Puerto Aventuras, is also a major thoroughfare for game fish species. Furthermore, the entire coast of Puerto Aventuras lies along the edge of a large underwater valley, providing easy and quick access to offshore fishing.

The fishing seasons in Puerto Aventuras vary depending on the species and type of fishing. Here's a breakdown of the seasons for offshore fishing for tuna, billfish, dorado, and wahoo in Puerto Aventuras:

Offshore fishing

• Tuna: The best season for tuna fishing in Puerto Aventuras is from July all the way to March, although tuna can be caught throughout the year.
• Billfish: The best season for billfish, including white marlin and blue marlin, is from April to August.
• Dorado: The best season for dorado, also known as mahi-mahi, is from April to September.
• Wahoo: The best season for wahoo is from November to March, although they can be caught year-round.
• Kingfish, barracuda and bonito can also be caught year-round.

Inshore fishing
