Redfish fishing

The redfish (Sciaenops ocellatus), also known as red drum is one of the most sought after light tackle game fish. The fish is found in the western Atlantic Ocean from northern Mexico to the Southeast of the US.

Red drum are a dark red color on the back and have a characteristic black eyespot near the tail. They feed on crabs, shrimp and mullet.

Fishing inlets and passes with live baits like mullet, croakers and mud minnows is the best way to catch big redfish. Casting artificials along the beaches is also a great way to target redfish. One of the most exciting way to catch redfish is poling the flats and sight-fishing the grass flats for redfish.

Redfish can weigh up to 45kg (100lb) and mesure 150cm (61in) in length.
